You should have received a letter from the IRS telling you how much they sent you for the Advanced Child Tax Credit payments. If you did not, then you will need to log into the IRS Portal for Child Tax Credit to see what they sent you.

Even if your ex kept the payments, you will still need to report the payments on your return and it will be deducted from the amount you will receive with your return. Whether or not your ex kept it, will not change the reportability of the payment. If you do not report the correct amount, the IRS will send you a letter telling you there is a problem with your return which will make it take longer for them to process and for you to receive your refund.

The Ex provides me nothing. Will I be able to establish an IRS account to see the payments made under the previous joint return information using my own SS#?

But previous year was a joint return, this year Head of Household. So do I assume half of the advanced credit payment as mine?

Yes, for people married filing jointly each spouse is allotted half of the advanced payments. Your amount is stated in letter 6914 or online at the Child Tax Credit Portal. Therefore, when you file as head of household this year you will still enter your half of the advance payment, the amount shown on letter 6914 or online.

Login to your TurboTax Account

Click on the "Search" on the top and type "Child tax credit"

Click on “Jump to Child Tax Credit”

Continue through the questions until the "Tell us about any advance Child Tax Credit payments" screen and enter the advance payment amount from letter 6914.

Continue through the questions.
