I've been using TurboTax for nearly 20 years, and I've been pretty happy with it. This year has been the exception. My federal taxes are getting rejected with IND-032-04 several times last week. I even tried changing her AGI to 0 without success. then I went through the process of getting an ID.me account upgrade so I could log into the IRS.gov and download my prior year transcript. The transcript shows my prior year AGI exactly the same as the prior year AGI on my federal tax form submitted through the TurboTax CD program. After the latest rejection I tried changing my spouse's self-sign pin get the same reject. There has to be a bug in your transfer program generating this error. I'll do whatever it takes to ensure my taxes can be submitted electronically and I certainly hope you are willing to do the same. If my only choice with you is to file manually, I'll have to (reluctantly) find another tax preparation software.

Thanks for the response but I had already tried all your recommendations and they did not work. I installed TT on my laptop with Windows 11 and tried from there. Got the same error. So, I tried one more thing. I selected the option stating neither of us had filed last year even though we have e-filed with TT for years and our federal taxes were finally accepted. This leads me to believe there is a data error in your transfer program. I say this because I downloaded, from IRS, my 2020 transcript showing the AGI is exactly the same as the prior year AGI on my 2021 return. Please check into this and let me know what you find.

OH MY WORD.. I'm having the same problem!! @Frustrated Jerry can you PLEASE let me know the steps to do what you did? In the meantime, I'm going to attempt to figure out how to do it. I just pray that I don't have to start all over. We're both small business owners and I have two W2s, so it's an understatement that it would be a headache if I have to start all over again. But so help me.. over 20 years of using TT and I have NEVER had to do this..

@mom2louis Enter a 0 (zero) for the spouse's 2020 AGI and e-file again.

If the IRS rejects the return then enter a 0 for the 2020 AGI for both of you and e-file again.

@DoninGATHANK YOU!! I just went ahead and changed BOTH of our AGIs to 0 and re-e-filed. If I can make it to an hour without a "rejected" email, I will assume that it worked. Nothing like staying up until 2AM to finish taxes only for it to REPEATEDLY give you a "rejected" notification. The first time was my mistake (I accidentally put my AGI for my hubby) but once I fixed it, it continued.

I have had the same experience. Rejected e-filing for the first time since preparing my forms with Turbo since 2016. Suddenly rejected because of PIN numbers and because my prior AGI (adjusted gross income) from prior year's 2020 filing did not match IRS records. I looked up a help section on AGI and discovered the possible reason for my rejected e-file. One year ago, due to a mistake on my part on my first return, I filed an amended return within days and it contained an updated AGI because of added income. However, I learned this year that I should not submit have submitted last year's amended (and correct) AGI, but instead the originally filed (incorrect) AGI in order to match the IRS records of the AGI on my original (incorrect) return. This, to me, seems like a major flaw and taxpayers should be sent warning messages from Turbo about this if they must file an amended return.

What I finally did to get it to work was tell the e-file pre-file questions that neither my spouse nor I filed our taxes last year. When you do that, the program will not ask for your prior year AGI. You still use your prior year pins. Both my Federal and State tax submissions were approved and processed.

We also received the same error code. For the first time we were rejected for the last 25+ years using TurboTax. Our filing as "Married Filing Jointly (MFJ)" never changed. Verified my (as spouse) PIN was the same as in 2020 filing. AGI $amount was populated by TurboTax but it was as MFJ. We talked to a rep who was very patient with us, she consulted with one of the techs and advised us to enter "0". So we did and it WORKED.

Running into this same issue. I'm blind, and my spouse recently broke her knee, so it's really inconvenient that we have to fight this battle too. After multiple rejections, we're finally going to just send a printed return. This is one additional headache we do not need.

Using TT methods did not work for me either. The AGI was always correct for both myself and my spouse. The third time I tried, I used a "0" for my wife's AGI and it was finally accepted. I agree with other filers who say this is some kind of software hiccup between TT and IRS. I had a similar issue last year and the "0" also worked. If thousands of filers are having the same problem it is likely not the fault of the filer.

The third attempt at efiling 2021 with a joint return worked because I put "0" for my wife's AGI. The AGI on the forms was always correct and always rejected as incorrect. I agree. Software problem or TT and IRS not on same page.

I must confess. I gave up in frustration after failed e-file attempts were rejected. I printed out my returns and attached schedules. Put them in an envelope. Went to the post office and mailed them to IRS. Enough of dealing with TT this year was enough.

The point of my post is that these TT fixes did not work. First of all TT puts in the AGI, not me. Also the AGI is correct. I double checked it. If users have done everything according to instructions, then there is a software bug or a breakdown in the process between TT and IRS.
