Due to having heathcare from the market place, if she files taxes for her $4900.00, there is a spot I have to answer it on my end and I owe money to the IRS. If she doesn't file, then I get 600 from the IRS. So, she can skip filing since it's under 12,000, right?

If your 20 year old is not a full-time college student you cannot claim her as a dependent, because she had over $4300 of income. She can file her own return that says she cannot be claimed as someone else's dependent---and she can receive the $1400 stimulus by using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review, and she may get a tax refund if tax was withheld from her paychecks.

Sorry-----you cannot claim her.

That is incorrect, you can actually claim your adult dependents, even if they are not your children. Also, you don't have to file taxes if you make under 12,555 this year. A simple Google search would have told you that.

No, @xmasbaby is not incorrect. You cannot claim your child as a dependent if they are 19 or older unless they are a full-time student. You also cannot claim her as a Qualifying Relative because she made more than $4,300 in the tax year.

Sorry the IRS uses a very low amount to claim adults. If they made over $4,300 you can not claim them. Here are some links.

See IRS Publication 501 starting on page 11 bottom Dependents

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p501.pdf

Who can I claim as a dependent?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/credits-and-deductions/help/who-can-i-claim-as-my-dependent/00/26781

Who you can claim article

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/family/rules-for-claiming-a-dependent-on-your-tax-return/L8LODbx94

And she should file her own return as independent. She can get the 1,400 3rd Stimulus payment if she didn't get it during the year or if you already got it for her. She can get her own and you don't have to pay it back.
