Is it true that we must submit to facial recognition this year, in order to file our taxes?

According to Slate.com (and others): "The U.S. Internal Revenue Service is planning to require citizens to create accounts with a private facial recognition company in order to file taxes online. The IRS is joining a growing number of federal and state agencies that have contracted with ID.me to authenticate the identities of people accessing services."

How does this affect filing our taxes via TurboTax? Thanks.

That is only used when accessing tax transcripts or tax accounts on the IRS website. It has nothing to do with filing your tax return using TurboTax or any other tax preparation software.

failure to register using the new method will mean you will not be able to access any of your records online starting some time in 2022

Hey I just now saw this on the news! It won't be to file a tax return. Just to log into the IRS to access your account and get copies.

A lot of Congress members are upset with this IRS plan.

It may be dead by the time summer comes around. (at least, the facial recognition part).
