I am never prompted to enter the cost of daycare, and I am also asked if me or my wife were disabled or students. It's like the software isn't registering that we both had earned income. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?

In order to get the childcare credit you have to enter your income. Make sure you have entered your W-2's or self-employment income. And....if you were self-employed but show a loss, you will not get the childcare credit. If you are filing a joint return make sure you show income under each spouse's name.
