I am a 19 year old Wildland Firefighter, commuting twice monthly 90 miles each way for 7 months (1260 miles total). For the job I had to buy a pulaski ($75) and safety boots ($500). Are any of these deductible as a work expense? Should I use an itemized form or the Free Turbo Tax form (or can I itemize on the free form)?

If you are being paid as an employee and receive a W-2 from your employer then none of your employee business expenses are deductible on a federal tax return due to the tax code changes in effect for tax years 2018 thru 2025.
