There isn't a Payer's Federal Tax ID Number for United Na...

  There
isn't a Payer's Federal Tax ID Number for United Nations Pension Fund
payments. One customer was able to resolve this issue by using
11-1111111 as the Payer's Federal Tax ID Number.

Enter
the pension information as if you received a 1099-R, using these steps:

Click on Federal > Wages
     & Income.

Scroll down to the Retirement
Plans and Social Security section and click on the Start/Revisit box
next to IRA, 4701(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).

If you've already entered one (or
more) 1099-Rs, you will see a screen Your1099-R Entries. Click
on the link Add Another 1099-R.

If you haven't yet entered a
1099-R, you will see the screen, Your 1099-R. Click Yes and
     then Continue.

You can either import your 1099-R
or click on the I'll type it in myself box.

If you select to enter the
information yourself, you will see a screen, Tell Us Which 1099-R You
Have. Mark the radio button next to Form 1099-R, withdrawal
of money from 401(k) retirement plans, pensions, IRAs, etc.

Continue through the screens,
     answering the interview questions.

EIN: 11-1111111 worked for the 2019 tax return, but it is not working for the 2020 one.

IRS keeps rejecting the return, stating EIN error as the reason.

Would you have any other suggestions, please?

You can try 99-9999999 for the EIN of the United Nations Pension Fund payments. If necessary, you may need to contact them for the correct number. If you can't contact them and you can't e-file using 1-1111111 or 99-9999999, you need to mail your return because the IRS requires an EIN is required for e-filing. TurboTax checks the IRS database when a return is e-filed, and if the IRS rejects it due to name-EIN mismatch, TurboTax is blocked and cannot file for you.

You can use all of the 9's or 1's, but at the end you may still have to file by mail depnding on your state. Because it seems TT isn't accepting those numbers for e-file. But it will attach all of the relevant forms for the IRS. There really needs to be a solution for the Payers ID# so users who have to file and worked for the UN will be able to e-file. Whether that fix comes from the UN to provide a usable number, or from the IRS to provide a good way to work around the need for the Payers ID#, or from TT. Maybe they can have one number (maybe all 3's or something) that the customer can use in these situations and TT won't thow an error code at them at the end of the filing. Just some thoights here.
