To file tax returns for past years, you cannot use TurboTax Online which is dedicated to the current year (2019).

You need to use TurboTax Desktop products which can be purchased here. @Shanell_48

Yes. You can file prior years returns. You'll need to purchase and download the TurboTax software for PC or Mac as TurboTax Online and the mobile app are only available for the current tax year. Prior years returns can't be e-file, you will need to print the returns and file them by mail.

Sorry, Online for 2018 and prior is closed now so you can not start a new 2018 return or finish one. Online is only for 2019. Oct 15, 2019 was the last day to efile. 2018 is now the prior year.

You can only buy the download for prior years. You have to buy a separate program for each year. They only sell the last 3 years. You need a full Windows or Mac computer to install it on. Buy the download here

@KristaCatherine The current online program can only be used for a 2019 return--no other year.

Online preparation and e-filing for 2016, 2017 and 2018 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2016, 2017, or 2018 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

Yes you have to buy each year separately. Unless you want to download the blank forms from the IRS and fill them out by hand. I have links for all the years. What years do you need to file?

You mean 2020 to prepare 2021.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
