I NEED A COPY OF MY W-2 (or 1099)

TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2—the Wage & Tax Statement—issued to you by your employer, (nor does TurboTax have copies of your 1099’s). You should always save those documents for your own records. You could ask the employer(s) for copies or you can get a copy from Social Security (for a fee of $90).

If you saved a pdf of your completed tax return, the worksheets will show the W-2 information you entered, but not the actual W-2.

You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS: It will not show the actual W-2, 1099’s, etc, but will show the income information the IRS received. It will not, however, show your state information. It will only show the federal information.

What year are you looking for? The current tax year is 2021 and has not ended.

Employers create W-2 forms at the end of the year. They are due out by Jan 31 of the next year.

Make sure any employer you worked for during the year has your current address on file.

@Angela_567 If you are referring to your 2021 W-2 your employer will issue that by the end of January 2022.

If you mean a W-2 for 2020 or an earlier year, you need to ask the employer for a copy if you do not have one.

You might need to phone, drop in, email and/or snail mail an old employer to make sure they know where to send your W-2.

And….SAVE YOUR OWN W-2! TURBOTAX DOES NOT SAVE IT FOR YOU. TurboTax will not have a copy of it in your account and will not have an image even if you snapped a photo. It is up to you to save it for your own records as stated on the back of the W-2.

Did you import your W-2 from your employer? Sometimes, box 14 entries of imported W-2's will get filled in, but the categories need to be selected. Please select the appropriate box 14 categories and once that is complete, your W-2 should pass review.

If this does not work, then please delete the imported W-2 and re-enter manually. This should correct the problem.

Please follow these steps to edit your W-2:

Open your return in TurboTax.
Search for W-2 with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page.
Select the Jump to link.
Click Edit next to your W-2 or use the trash can icon to delete your W-2.
If you want to re-enter your W-2, select Add a W-2.
