Thank you. That is so disappointing! Especially when the job is set up more like an independent contractor but is operating as a W2.

Hello, I just started a new job and filled out a W-4. The job requires you to use your own car to drive to assignments and provide your own clothing - which in this industry gets worn out/destroyed much faster than regular wear. How can I write-off items/services with a W-4 type job? Are these considered itemized deductions and do they need to equal more than the standard deductions to make a difference?

Sorry---a W-4 is the document you fill out for an employer to tell them how much tax to withhold from your pay for a W-2 job. There are no federal job-related tax deductions for mileage, clothing, etc. Job-related expenses for W-2 employees were eliminated as a federal deduction beginning with tax year 2018.
