We missed the October 15 deadline for our 2020 taxes (no problem, because we don't owe anything), and want to file electronically.
Unfortunately we need to clear everything and start over, because we didn't import our 2019 info first.
We're afraid if we start over we won't be able to file. This is only because we're not entirely clear on this statement at the top of our page:

"Returns filed after October 15 may be subject to late filing fees. However, if you've started your 2020 tax return, you have until October 29 at 9PM PST to electronically file your return online."

We "started" before October 15, but now we have to start all over again and don't want to ruin our chances of filing electronically.

I don't know. You can try to clear and start over.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-clear-and-start-over-in-turbotax-online/00/26444

Otherwise you will have to switch to the Desktop program to start over. You will need to download the .tax2019 file to transfer into a new Desktop return. Did you pay for online yet? If not you can buy the Desktop program here

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

The Oct 29 date is if you actually filed *on or before Oct 15* and it was rejected. Then you have the Oct 29 grace period to file the reject and re-efile. If you never filed at all in the first place then Oct 15 is the cut off date. You can only print and mail file.

TT is allowing users who started the online return to continue to finish and efile until 10/29 this year ... it will be considered "late filing" but it is being allowed. Professional tax programs can continue to efile 2018, 2019 & 2020 returns until sometime late November. After that the IRS closes efiling completely until sometime in January for the switch to the next tax year.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/filing-and-paying-taxes/help/what-if-i-missed-the-october-15-filin...

Yes, electronically filed tax returns are accepted until November. The specific cutoff date in November is announced in October in the QuickAlerts Library.

In the past, Turbotax stopped accepting returns after October 15, but they seem to have extended it this year.
