If you have been preparing a return in the TurboTax Free File Program and discover that you do not qualify, then unfortunately, you won't be able to use the same account to go back to regular Online TurboTax from the TurboTax Free File Program. And there are no upgrades within the TurboTax Free File Program.

Using the same User ID will continue to sign you in to TurboTax Free File Program.

Here are some options. The first 2 would require a start over. The 3rd option involves desktop software and would not require starting over.

If you already have another Online TurboTax account (User ID), you can use that other account to go back to Online TurboTax and select a product, where you would have to start over in a new return.

If you don't have another account, then you would have to create one to use Online TurboTax.

There is another option if you wish to do this, which would allow you to continue without starting over:

You could download your *.tax2018 data file you started in TurboTax Free File Program (we can tell you how), and then finish it in desktop software (CD/download) you could buy and install on your computer.

In the desktop product, all editions prepare the same forms. So you could even use Deluxe if desired. Deluxe comes in 2 versions--one that is a combo Federal and State, and one that is Federal-only, so you have to be careful when purchasing. When purchased directly from TurboTax, Deluxe is the combo Federal and State version.

The desktop Basic Edition does not have a state program and cannot import from ItsDeductible.

I started with the free Turbo Tax program, upgraded to the next level when prompted. Had some questions, spoke to expert, was told that I probably qualified for free-file. Went to free file and was told I was ineligible. Attempted to get back to Turbo tax, ready to upgrade, but I cannot access anything through Turbo tax except the Intuit free file information which is directing me to the IRS gov. PLEASE HELP ME GET BAC

So did you choose to actually switch to the Free File Program, started to continue your return there, and ended up not being eligible? Or did it say you were ineligible before you started using it?

The following assumes you were using the same account (same User ID) at both the original TurboTax Online site and at the TurboTax IRS Free File Program site.

If you did not actually accept the switch offer when prompted or were ineligible right off the bat, and thus never actually started working on a TurboTax IRS Free File return, then try this first:

First log out of all Intuit accounts.
Delete your browser Internet cache and any Intuit-related cookies.
Close your browser and reopen it.
Then try to log into your Online account at the Online TurboTax website.
Does that put you back in your original product, or does it put you back in the TurboTax IRS Free File Program?
If that worked, then you've accomplished your goal.

If that was unsuccessful, and it keeps putting you back in the IRS Free File Program, here's what another user reported worked for him:

First log out of all Intuit accounts.
Delete your browser Internet cache and any Intuit-related cookies.
Close your browser and reopen it.
Go to https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/compare/online/
When you arrive there, do NOT sign in yet.
Choose the product you want like you hadn't even started a return before, and click on "Start for Free".
It will ask how you did your taxes last year. Say "TurboTax", and then it will ask you to sign in.
When you log in, it may recognize you were using the IRS Free File Program and should ask you if you want to switch to a TurboTax commercial product and not use the IRS Free File Program anymore. Say "yes".
Hopefully, that will put you back in regular Online TurboTax while keeping your originally-entered info.

Sorry, but more info is needed. Your situation is not clear. You need to explain your situation in full, including verifying what product edition you are using and what/where your issue/roadblock is. Do you mean you are using regular Free Edition at the Online TurboTax website as opposed to the special website for the TurboTax IRS Free File Program?

You only mentioned state taxes. Have you already efiled a Federal return with Online TurboTax, and if so, has it been accepted?
