If you cannot import automatically, you can always enter the information by hand. (I do it that way myself.) Use your printed copy of the 1099(s) and enter them one by one. American Funds has been an issue at the AARP volunteer tax preparation site I worked at this year. Their 1099-DIV statements list a set of mutual funds and you should not enter their total, but enter each individually with the EIN listed for it and not American Funds EIN.

The solution is SO DUMB but when you look at your 1099-div, you need to enter in the "recipient's account & fund number" reversed. So on your 10-99-div it will say [phone number removed]-01, [phone number removed]-03, [phone number removed]-07, etc.

[phone number removed] is your account number

01 is your fund number

To login, you need to type in the 01 (or 03, 07, etc) BEFORE your account number (include the dash) and you should be good to go.

Not sure why they make it complicated like that but it worked for me. The answer is a year late for you, but hopefully it'll help someone else 🙂

I'm a bit late as well but my addition to this thread is a bit different. I too received the goofy 'password is incorrect' while attempting to import my American Funds tax data. However, in my case, it WAS password-related. I use silly, strong passwords that would make most puke their guts out. Although Amer Funds is okay with my 16-char long password, apparently TT truncates it at some smaller number of charaters when trying to log in to Amer Funds on my behalf. So I had to temporarily change my pwd with Amer Funds; I chose a smaller 8 character ugly pwd. Once I did that, TT completed the link-up and downloaded my Amer Funds tax data. Hoooray!

Oh, and the username was the fund number (xx-yyyyyyyy) of one of my accts. Once you're done with the import, PLEASE go back to Amer Funds and change your pwd back to something grotesque and keep track of it.

mike

This is still a problem three years later. I was fortunate to find this solution while searching for why TurboTax would not import when the password works fine to log in directly with American Funds. Changed the password as suggested, went back to TurboTax and the import worked! Thanks.
