TurboTax does allow transfer of the previous year's information from the CD/Download TurboTax software to TurboTax Online, and vice versa. Instructions are in the following FAQs.

Thanks for the links. Yes, they do transfer basic info from the PDF or TAX file. However, more complex info/calculations like schedule C and depreciation are not transferred over. Turbotax provided tutorials where I could find this info on my old returns. However, this was a tedious manual process that I am afraid I might have made mistakes on. For how much they charge for their programs, they should have this automated. Turbotax please make the effort to program this in to future versions!

Yes it all will transfer from the .tax2017 file. But Premier doesn't have schedule C. If you upgrade to the Self Employed version it should all show up.

I am sorry. I meant to say Schedule E. I am getting my schedules mixed up! When I started online Premier version they prompted my to upload my previous year's PDF return. That was great as it auto-populated much info from last year. But halfway through doing my taxes I realized they were not transferring over Schedule E, depreciation, etc. After some research I realized that I could upload my previous year's .TAX file through the tools link. However, if I did it at this point all the inputs I have entered online would be erased. They should have prompted me to upload a .TAX file then instead of a PDF file when I started my online taxes.

Did you transfer from the pdf?  You need to transfer from the .tax2017 file.

If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version, expand the 3rd blue link if you used the CD/download last year........

If you used the Desktop program before you may not like the online version.  It has less features and no Forms Mode.  You can only do 1 return.  Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2018 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done.  In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something.  You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.

What didn't transfer?  On some forms like schedule C you might have marked it as Final last year.  Or if you do have self employment income you need to use the online Self Employed version.
