State won=Indiana, had Fed and State(indiana) tax withheld on w2g (at the casino). on a 2k slot win (have four of these in 2018)
Since the state tax was paid on the spot, is it necessary to fill out a Indiana form on turbo tax for Indiana? Ironically I see my Michigan taxes go up on these winnings, so it looks like they both tax me, not one or the other.
Can't find this info on internet, ...how to file,,what to withhold at a casino when it is out of state, etc.
Thank you for the responses!
Regards,
John

Yes, you will need to file both states if you won in Indiana and live in Michigan. You should file Indiana first as you may be able to get a small credit for taxes paid to other states on your Michigan return. But, you will be taxed by both states.

"If you were a full-year nonresident of Indiana, but received any income from Indiana sources, you must file your Indiana income taxes."https://www.in.gov/dor/4731.htm

Thank you for the response! I did erase and start over Michigan tax, but it made no difference on the return (but it was worth trying). I wonder why on the top of the Turbo page where it lists what you are getting back/owe, that Indiana is not there, just Fed And Michigan. Indiana is referenced on the State page, but there are no $$ numbers , and It didn't even ask me about a w2g (must of been imported from Fed?)

Yes, it would be imported from the federal. You should still go through and answer all of the Indiana questions.

It is not showing because it only shows federal and one state at a time.
