hi please indicate if users should be sending the following type of issue to an email address or this forum is most appropriate.

For the question TT asks under HSA 'tour': Did {user name} inherit this HSA?

it then says: It's not common, but we have to check. If you inherited this HSA from a spouse, answer No.

This is worded in such a way as to be confusing and misleading in multiple ways.

Consequently this begs for a multiple choice answer first of which could be: you inherited your IRA, but it was from your spouse.

next option choice : you inherited your IRA but not from your spouse and then option 3 you did NOT inherit your HSA.

Literally the Q and one possible A is self-contradictory.

I understand under the rules TT is coming to conclusion that if from spouse it is AS IF the answer is NO but that is so confusing because you are answering no to the initial question even though the literal answer is \yes to the English question asked. imo.

disclaimer: none of this is tax advice nor can be used as tax advice I don't hold myself out to be an expert all users should see their own tax consultant to determine their individual tax situation.

I posted the original question concerning the correct amounts for the HSA contribution for 55+. Today is 12/17/2018 and the software has not yet been corrected, FYI. There is an additional problem with the HSA section, in that it asks "Did L inherit this HSA from your spouse?"...which I didn't. The instructions to the question state that "If you inherited this from your spouse, answer no." The following questions, however, then ask me about the contributions to my HSA, and somehow come to the conclusion that the distributions from my HSA for qualified medical expenses are taxable. This is clearly wrong! Please address this issue with your "product" department as well.

When will my forms be ready?

Historically, IRS tax forms start becoming available in January, with a few stragglers (most notably Form 1040X) getting finalized in February.

State tax forms can become available for filing any time between December and late February, depending on the state and the tax form.

For specific forms and dates, refer to the Forms Availability Table for your TurboTax product, see the related information below.

Can I Still Work On My Return Before My Forms are Ready?

Yes, according to the following:

Federal Taxes
You can still work on your return and finish most of it. Once your forms become available, we’ll create the forms and include all of your info.

You’ll only be able to e-file or print your return once the forms are available.

While you’re working on your return, we’ll ask if you want to receive email updates when your forms become available.

State Taxes
If your forms aren’t available, you’ll get a message asking you to return once they become available.

While you’re working on your return, you’ll have a chance to let us know you want to receive email updates when your forms become available.

Related Information:

IRS Forms Availability Table for TurboTax Individual (Personal) Tax Products

State Forms Availability Table for TurboTax Individual (Personal) Tax Products

IRS Forms Availability Table for TurboTax Business

State Forms Availability Table for TurboTax Business

What does "Tax Form Under Construction" mean?

Click on the REVIEW tab and the program will tell you what in your return is still now ready and the estimated date it will be (subject to change of course ) ... you can put in for an email alert when they are ready ....
