Can I remove my adult college children as dependents in my 1040 tax return so they can be eligible for the Recovery Rebate and American Opportunity Credit (form 8863) under their own separate 1040 tax return?

They are not eligible for stimulus if they qualify as your dependents. It doesn't matter whether you actually claim them or not.

thank you for your help....

so if she disqualifies as a dependent because she lived on her own for most of 2020, then I would not claim her in my return and she does not check the box on her return that someone else can claim her as a dependent?

Correct ... if she no longer qualifies to be a dependent then she will NOT click the box saying she is a dependent.
