Per the IRS, your bank account information is obtained from the most recently filed tax return or information entered in Get My Payment. You cannot change your account information.

However, If the account was closed or no longer active (or does not have your name on it), then the bank is required to return the deposit. Your payment will be issued as a check to the address that the IRS has on file for you. This is generally the address on your most recent tax return or as updated through the United States Postal Service (USPS).

What is TurboTax really doing to ensure that they deposit the stimulus checks into the right accounts? Because they deposited my stimulus check into my ex girlfriends account no problem my STIMULUS CHECK gone. Finally found out today check to IRS website said they deposit into a bank account ending in 7078 I assumed all this time that I was going to get a “card”so they say in the mail. I found out today that was my ex-girlfriend’s TurboTax account ending in 7078 go figure thanks TurboTax. Great job on improving that you put your stimulus checks in the right account.
