Sorry, but TT Free does not include self-employment income and expenses.

We don't have any idea of why TurboTax wants you to upgrade because we in the Community cannot see your private tax data, so can you tell us why TurboTax is wanting you to upgrade? There may be situations in which we can can advise how to avoid it.

If you meet the qualifications, you may be able to use the IRS Freefile as delivered by TurboTax, a free filing service provided by TurboTax in partnership with the IRS.

Please see this TurboTax webpage which explains the difference between the IRS program and the TurboTax Free Edition product.

If you think you qualify for the IRS Freefile program (see the links), start with this link - this is a separate link from the TurboTax Free edition.

The TurboTax Free Edition is only for simple returns. If your data entry triggers a form which is not supported by the Free Edition, then you will be asked to upgrade, as you know.

Maybe you don't qualify with the requirements of free efile
