Yes claiming him as a dependent and he filed his taxes already, so irs rejected my tax return

@jowie2monte -why do you believe he is still your dependent?

did he make more or less than $4300 for the year?

WHEN me began working is not a criteria for dependency, but HOW MUCH he made is.

@jowie2monte - it depends.... how much did he make? was he a full time student the first part of the year? did you provide more than half of his support in 2020?

it's possible he is your dependent and your son filed incorrectly OR he filed correctly and your son is no longer your dependent. THere are simply a lot of variables

He made about 3,700

@jowie2monte - if he made $3700 and lived at home and you provided more than 50% of his support, he is your dependent.

if he filed and did NOT check the box stating he CAN be claimed by others - he needs to amend his return. You may not receive the 3rd stimulus (he will fraudulently) and you won't be eligible to get the up to $500 tax credit for others

list him as your dependent and paper file; suggest he include his amended return in the same envelope with a cover letter explaining what is going on.
