Filing as the executor of will

Mt dad passed away in 2020 and my mom lives in a nursing home on Medicaid. She, my mother, is now recieving his , my father's, pensions. All money she gets (minus a small stipend). As executor of will, how do I file? I have 1090-R in both his name (before death) and in hers.

File a joint return.

in the year of death, the surviving spouse can file status MFJ.

if your mom is competent she should sign as surviving spouse.

You the executor, should also sign.

you will probably have to file on paper.

enter date of death to get the proper annotations on form 1040.
