Make sure you indicate the child lived with you all year (this is the correct choice for a newborn). Also, the child must have a valid social security number. (If you have applied for an SSN and have not received it, don't file until you have it, even if it makes you late. Be sure to get the automatic extension. If you file without the SSN, and then amend later, the additional tax benefits won't be paid.)

and worst case.... delete the child and start over.

most common mistakes: enter a number of month less than 12*, failure to enter the social security number

* I bet it's this one: this really isn't an issue if you use 7-12; but it definitely is an issue if you use 1-6

and worst case.... delete the child and start over.

most common mistakes: enter a number of month less than 12*, failure to enter the social security number

* I bet it's this one: this really isn't an issue if you use 7-12; but it definitely is an issue if you use 1-6

Turbotax interprets any number of 5 months or less as "less than half the year", and 6 months as "exactly half the year", so that will prevent a dependent from being a qualifying child dependent, since exactly half is not "more than half." "More than half" is 7 months or longer, but in the case of a newborn, answer "the whole year" as long as the child lived with you since it was born, whenever in the year that happened to be.
