TurboTax Software Incomplete Qualified Dependent List.

Why does the TurboTax Software does not have the full line of qualified dependents as accepted by IRS on the drop-down menu. Single is default when it should allow Head of Household. I have a Sister in Law I support when I pick "OTHER" it defaults to "SINGLE" which is incorrect. "Sister In Law" is a qualified dependent.

The first question under what type of dependent allows you to click in-laws. For the second, choose "sister". This will allow her to be your dependent and qualify you for Head of Household.

She must actually qualify you. She must meet the income and support tests.

She has no income. They have not approved her disability.

If she has no income and you support her then she meet both tests, relationship and support; and can be qualify as your dependent.

Thanks I know. But if you select "OTHER" it defaults to "SINGLE" status and the software does not allow you to change it to HOH.... This is due to Sister-In-Law (an IRS qualified dependent) not being available. Therefore, I selected, OTHER, now I have to amend the return.

My stimulus, and her stimulus are on hold. My refund is on hold. I have to wait until they issue it before I can amend. :( What a mess. :(
