How long does it take for the IRS to accept a direct online e-payment for taxes owed from my bank account?

I sent the balance owed on my 2020 tax return via direct withdrawal from my bank within TurboTax Premier. I have not received notification that the money was withdrawn from my checking account or accepted by the IRS yet over 24 hours later.

If you selected debit from your bank account, the IRS will do the debit when they process your return information usually 1-3 weeks for e-file and 3-4 weeks if mailed in.

The IRS accepted my efile the same day and they did not debit my account. TurboTax said my direct debit would happen within 48 hours.

The direct debit is done once your return is fully processed. Also please keep in mind that due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic, the IRS is experiencing delays.
