Hello,

This year I will be filing taxes independently (parents didn’t support me) for the first time. I understand I will get the first two checks, but what about the third? I have not filed this year because I received unemployment and have been waiting on more guidance from the IRS on when to file due to the $10,200 exemption. Also, I am subject to the kiddie tax because I supported myself with unearned income (unemployment) so I have to wait for my parents to file as well. Will the IRS receive my return and then send out the third check that I am now eligible for or will I have to wait until next year to claim it as a rebate?

Check back tomorrow, as you should be able to file then re unemployment. And, yes, you should get stimulus #3 as a result of filing 2020. But it comes separately, not as part of your 2020 refund.

Great, thanks. Couple follow up questions. What happens tomorrow that allows me to file? Also, my parents will likely get their check any day and seeing as I was a dependent in 2019 and they have not yet filed this year, they will get $1,400 for me and then I’ll get $1,400 for myself when I file later. Is there any issue there? I know the IRS has said you don’t have to pay back the checks if you became ineligible later but just curious how that applies to this situation.

They are suppose to be updating the program for the unemployment 10,200 exclusion. It's not in the program yet. So wait to file.
