Why isn't 2020 amended ready on here ye when it is on the IRS website stating that you can efile it with the tax service you completed your original return with?

The IRS website has the same form that has been used for the past 3 years with the addition of a line to write in 2020 as other year. It says it is available for efile for 2020 taxes

Do not try to change anything on your return now. When you amend, your Form 1040X has to be prepared from the return exactly the way it looked when you filed it originally. You have to wait. Once your return has been processed you will complete a Form 1040X --- which is not yet available --- and submit it to amend the mistakes made when you filed your original return. It takes the IRS at least four months to process an amended return.

The Form 1040X you need is under revision and is not ready yet. The Form 1040X does not become available in the software until March 18 (subject to change).

The 1040X will not be available in the software until March 18 You are correct that the the paper form is on the IRS site. You can print out that 1040X form if you want to use it—-and prepare your amended return by hand to mail in instead of waiting to use the software and e-file it.

The IRS still has to approve TT's version (programming) of the form, as it does with all the tax forms. And one cannot "write" 2020 on the top of a form that is being efiled, so programming is required.

Okay, I should've said a place to ENTER "other year" which I'm thinking is pretty simple to add to the already existing form as it's the same one as last year. I realize that"one doesn't write" when you're feeling, but thanks

It is a matter of a week and the 1040X will be available in the software. It is going to take the IRS 4-6 months to process your amended return, so what's the rush?

Not True... If you have your return amended it wont necessarily take 4-6 months. With everything last year i had my 2019 return amended filed in late april and it took about 6 weeks at most.
