You will not SEE a Form 8915-E.

When the Form 1099-R is entered there will be questions concerning if the withdrawal was related to Covid-19. If the withdrawal was because of Covid-19 the TurboTax program will generate the 8915-E and include the form with the filed federal tax return.

Same here. I've answered the Covid questions appropriately and still Form 8915E is not available to me. I've downloaded the latest updates. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is anyone else having this problem?

If using the desktop editions, click on Forms. The form 8915-E will be in the list on the left side of the screen.

The withdrawal is due to Covid. I selected that it was withdrawn due to Covid, all of the distribution was a Covid distribution, and someone tested positive for Covid. When I go to forms I see 8915A and 8915B NOT 8915E. How can I possibly be keying this in incorrectly? It seems pretty straightforward to me. Also in the 'These Situations May Lower Your Tax Bill', I keyed in the withdrawal amount in Other Reason line. Any thoughts?

8915E still not being generated automatically.

So I added it manually but it didn't allow me to check the COVID-19 box.

I powered through and entered all the information and my taxes dues went UP.

Something is seriously wrong with the form.

Intuit - please fix the issue and let everyone know when the fix is deployed.

The Form 8915-E has been available in all editions since 02/26/2021.

What TurboTax program are you using, the online web-based edition or the desktop CD/Download editions installed on a personal computer?

If the desktop editions which OS, Windows or Mac? And have you updated the software to the latest Release?

Did you delete the Form 1099-R and re-enter?

What is the code in box 7 of the 1099-R? Is the IRA/SEP?SIMPLE box checked? Is there an amount entered in box 2a of the form? Are any boxes checked in 2b of the form?

Here is how I fixed my problem....

I deleted the file I was working on and rekeyed the 2020 information. The Form 8915E populated just as it should have. I started this return before the update was ready. I guess that made it glitch. Thankfully, I didn't have a lot of information to key in again.

I started my tax return filing 2 days ago and I have the same issue. I answered all the questions correctly but it still shows that I have a 10% penalty. Please help!

I am using TurboTax online.

8915-e is ready. Please use the Chrome browser and clear all browsing data.

Then sign into TuirboTax

You may have to delete and reenter your 1099-R if you do not get this question when you review it

I took out this money because of a qualified disaster (includes COVID-19) - Select this question

Answer the other questions until you get to this screen

To be sure the form is created, go to Tax Tools, tools, Delete a form and your will see 8915 and 8915-E-T on the list.

I took a qualified 2020 covid-19 early distribution from a retirement plan and opted to spread the tax over three years. I paid tax on 1/3 of the distribution in 2020. I need to pay tax on 1/3 of the distribution for tax year 2021 and also for 2022. How do I report the the taxable portion on my 2021 tax return? Turbo tax is not prompting me any questions relating to a Covid distribution and I cannot find a Form 8915-E for 2021. I did not receive another 1099 for 2021, only for 2020.

You will report this in the Retirement Plans and Social Security section under Wages & Income. However, the Form 8915-F has not been finalized by the IRS for including in a 2021 tax return so the questions are not being asked until the form is available. There is no estimate from the IRS when this form will be available, but guessing sometime in March 2022.

I'm entered "No" to the question regarding Disaster of COVID distribution and re-entered in three more times and I am still getting an error saying I need to wait for 8915-E. This needs to be cleared up ASAP!

You can check and see if there is 8915-E form that has been generated and delete it. If the form exists and you don't need it, as long as you have not already filed or paid for your return, here is how you can delete a form from your Turbo Tax online return.

Well, I didn't have any COVID-related early withdrawal in 2020 but I did sell ESPP stocks and downloaded all the 1099-B, etc (but there was not 1099 R) yet I am still getting 8915E not available message. When I go into form mode on the desktop, I do not see any 1099R forms anywhere Then why am I getting this issue, Also I do see a whole bunch of 8915E, T, XXXX but one of them has Upside exclamation and says "not done". what gives?

It depends. If you are in the forms mode, you can try select each 8915-E and delete each one at the bottom of the page and see if that will eliminate the problem.

FYI - For everyone that took a Covid-19 withdrawal in 2020 and spread it across 3 years, you'll be using the 8915-F form, and not the 8915-E form, for your 2021 and all future tax returns.

Form 8915-F still isn't available in TurboTax yet, but hopefully soon.

I keep checking, the form 8915E-T is indeed there but has nothing in it and has beside the listing entry "(Not Done). When I try to do the "Ready for Federal Review" it keeps bringing up the page with the heading "We'll Help You Finish Your Taxes Soon" and lists the "Form 1040", "Form 8915E-T" and "Form 891tE-T: Qualified 2020 Disaster Ret..." with the statuses "Ready Soon".

It's less than a month until filing, I keep trying the updates for weeks now, but I cannot get past this. Is there a bug in the TurboTax software?

It is still not working for me, either. I'll answer your questions for my problem (Form 8915E-T Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Plan Distribution and Repayments" is still listed as "Ready Soon".

I'm using the Desktop CD version of turbotax Deluxe, bought form Costco, installed on a laptop Windows 11 computer. Windows automatically updates regularly (even last week) and so does turbotax.

Last week I did try deleting the Form 1099-R, saved it, got out of turbotax, restarted it, reentered it and got the same problem.

The code for box 7 is 7 - Normal Distribution. IRA/Sep/Simple is NOT checked on the form nor in Turbotax. There is an amount in 2a -- the same amount as in box 1.

There was a Form 1099-R in 2020 also, and the form worked fine in the 2020 filing. It asked if the amount was to be spread over 3 years and I checked the box. I think the 2021 is stuck because of this -- it probably picked up the problem from reading the 2020 file and can't figure out how to put the next 1/2 amount in 2021.

Form 8915-F is used to report a disaster-related retirement distribution, and any repayments of those funds. It also allows you to spread the taxable portion of the distribution over three years, if needed, and reports prior-year distribution amounts to be taxed in 2021. Form 8915-F replaces Form 8915-E.

The form won't be available until 3/24/2022 Federal Individual Form Availability
