Last yr. I got a stimulus check of $366, with no paperwork or form explaining it. Then I got another check for $1137 that said it was a refund on 2019 taxes (I was not due a refund) and again no paperwork or explanation.

Do I need to include that amount somewhere on my 2020 taxes when I file? I can't find where to do that.

Yes. TurboTax will ask you about your stimulus payments on the screen It looks like you qualified for the stimulus, did you get any payments?

Say Yes.

TurboTax will show you the amounts it calculated from your 2020 taxes. If those numbers are different from what you actually received ($1,137 and $366), say No and enter your actual amounts.

It’s possible you can get more stimulus. The stimulus payments were advanced payments for 2020. Since the IRS did not have 2020 information when it sent out payments, the Service used 2018 and 2019 tax information with the understanding that any missing payments would be added to your 2020 tax return.

Once your return is accepted by the IRS, everything is in their hands. The IRS anticipates nine out of 10 taxpayers will receive their refund within 21 days of when they file electronically with direct deposit if there are no issues with their tax return.

Check Where’s My Refund for the latest information about your refund.

It will take longer if you are claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit.

Under the PATH Act, the IRS cannot issue a refund involving the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) before mid-February. The law provides this additional time to help the IRS stop fraudulent refunds and claims from being issued, including to identity thieves.

The IRS anticipates a first week of March refund for many EITC and ACTC taxpayers if they file electronically with direct deposit and there are no issues with their tax returns.
