&lt;P&gt;You need to be cautious with this since cancellation of indebtedness (COD) can result in taxable income, and the debtor is now deceased.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;You should consult, in person, with a local tax professional (or legal counsel).&lt;/P&gt;
