I am the executor of my late father's estate. I now reside in the home. I notified the mortgage company and they placed my name as the "care of" on the account. My name was only placed on it as the "care of" person but not my SS#. The form 1098 only has my late father's name and SS# listed. How do I add this to my return?

One question: did your father pass away in 2020 or 2021 or was it prior to 2020?

who is the heir to the home?

If it is you, you became the owner as of the date of death.

You are now responsible for that mortgage since it is a lien against your home.

meanwhile you can enter the interest as "interest not reported on a 1098".
