Why does it say two different amounts on the same federal tax return? One amount is $1,546.00 refund and the other says $254.00 due

Did you prepare a state return? Maybe you owe tax to your state. Your federal return shows a federal refund on line 34. If you have federal tax due the tax you owe is on line 37. There will not be amounts on both of those lines.

You need to look at your tax returns so that you understand what and who you owe.

If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, (which has the address printed on it, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment. For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.

Are you getting a Recovery rebate credit of 1800 on 1040 line 30? I think it's showing you what your regular tax would be and what it is with the Stimulus credit.
