I’m trying to fix my return. My sister is paying me on her taxes as a dependent and I filled my taxes out as head of household, how do I fix that?

What? You sister cannot "pay" you as a dependent--so what do you mean----what is your sister doing? Did your sister claim you as her dependent?

If you can be claimed as someone else's dependent you cannot file as Head of Household.

Please explain what the two of you are trying to do---it sounds like both of you are confused.

Sorry not paying it’s supposed to say putting. I’m living with my sister now and I’m going to be her dependent but I accidentally put on my taxes as head of household because this is my first time doing taxes I didn’t know

@AAlyssa It is not clear whether you already e-filed. And....you could not have filed as Head of Household unless you claimed to be supporting dependents of your own, and then actually entered some dependents---did you do that?

If you are being claimed as a dependent by your sister, then in My Info you need to say YES to the question that asks if you can be claimed as someone else's dependent.

Yes I e-filed I need to change my taxes so my sister can claim me as her dependent

If the IRS accepted your return you have to wait until it has been processed and then amend it. Meanwhile since you have put your Social Security number into the system, your sister will not be able to e-file her return this year, even if you amend. Your sister now has to print, sign and mail her own tax return that claims you as a dependent. She cannot e-file at all this year.

When your return has been fully processed you can use a Form 1040X to amend. That form is not available until the end of March, so post back then for help with amending.
