Hi, hope someone who knows more abut this stuff than I do can advise!

The first and second stimulus payments were based on the 2019 tax return. My daughter filed as an independent on her 2019 tax return, so she received both payments.

She will file as a dependent for her 2020 taxes. We are wondering if the change in her filing status for 2020 means she will have to pay back the stimulus money she received?

No, the IRS says that taxpayers who were paid the stimulus do not have to repay them even if their 2020 tax situation would make them ineligible.
