The IRS likely will begin accepting electronic returns anywhere between Jan. 15 and Feb. 1, 2021.

TurboTax does not initiate the filing of the tax return for you.

You Must indicate in the File section of the program how you want to file the tax return, either by e-filing or by mailing the return.

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

A 2020 tax return cannot be filed until early January 2021 and only after you have received all of your Form W-2's and Form 1099's reporting income in 2020 and you entered all of them on one federal tax return.

Click on the Review section of the program and there will be a list of forms and schedules that have not yet been finalized for filing.
