Your only proof is your bank account. Turbo Tax doesn't know if or when you paid it. Your tax return will always show the tax due or refund. That is just the final result of your tax return.

TT is not part of the IRS and is never told when or even if you ever paid the balance due. The return will always show as a balance due because that is the return you filed. If you went to a paid tax pro and walked out with a paper copy of the return would you ever expect that paper copy to show a payment was ever made ??? It is the same with the TT program.

This is not making sense! TT is the one creating the amount of money that we have to pay or receive, so how to say that it is not a part of IRS? I am not talking about paper copy, there are updated confidential information that should be delt with seriously. Any error will cost us to pay more than what we should pay.

I assume there should be a department (or advisors) at TT to look into errors or outdated info. Is there any?

Turbotax has a lot of lobbyists influencing the IRS via your congressperson. That is the only sense in which it is part of the IRS.

Turbo Tax is a completely separate private company from the IRS. Just like HR Block or any tax preparation company or CPA or accountant. They just help you prepare your tax return. The IRS doesn't update Turbo Tax or any accountant or any one about your tax due or refund.

Turbo Tax is a self prepared return. It has no way of knowing or checking that you entered something wrong or in the wrong place or entered something twice Or left something out. It doesn't check against any outside sources. The IRS has copies of all the W2s and 1099s your employer and banks/brokers, etc. sent in to match against. Turbo Tax only checks the calculations of what you entered. It is your responsibility to check it over before you file. They only Guarantee that the calculations are right based on the entries you made.

The tax laws passed by Congress are what created the amount of money you pay or receive back as a tax refund. TurboTax is not a part of the IRS in any way.

There is a huge difference between a software company that provided the software for you to prepare your do-it yourself income tax return, and the Internal Revenue Service --which is a part of the federal government that collects tax from the people of the U.S.

TurboTax is a business owned by Intuit. It is NOT part of the IRS or part of the government, and does not write or make the tax laws. TurboTax and other tax software companies write software that you can use to prepare a tax return. The tax software on the market must undergo testing and approval by the IRS. The software is programmed to comply with all of the federal and state tax laws so that you can prepare your own return using a computer program instead of sitting down with paper forms, a sharp pencil with a good eraser, a calculator, and a 108 page !RS instruction book.

It is a software program. The results of using the software depend on the data entered by the user. If you enter something incorrectly, or leave out information, or enter it in the wrong place, then the results will be incorrect. When you use a software program you have to check your own entries to make sure you did not have typos, misplaced zeros, misplaced decimals, etc., etc. etc. If you use a pencil and paper to prepare your return, and make a mistake--the mistake is yours. If you use software and make a mistake--that mistake is also yours. And it can cost you money. That's why you have to check everything carefully and ask questions before you file if something confuses you.

Your tax due or tax refund was the result of data you entered into a software program. The program based those results on tax laws passed by Congress.

Once you file your tax return, the software is done. No information is provided to TurboTax from the IRS after you file. TurboTax never knows if you received your refund or paid your tax due.

TT does not update after your return has been accepted. Your account will always show the result of the return you prepared using the software. TurboTax never knows if you received your refund —or how, when or even if you paid tax due. Your proof that you paid your tax will be your own bank/credit card records.

All that being said----is there a problem with a tax return you filed that you need help with?

@shadyeltawil1976 - so yes, Turbo Tax will pay if errors result in you having to pay penalties and interest; it will not pay any additional tax owed.

But let's take a closer look at what constitutes an error on Turbo Tax's part.

They guarantee that there software will correctly process what you input and create a correct return. HOWEVER, they expect you to input the information correctly. If you fail to input correctly and that results in an incorrect return they are not liable!
