Will I get the second stimulus check?

My mother claimed me as a dependent on her 2019 taxes and I was 17 when the first stimulus checks came out. I’m 18 now and moved out so I no longer live with her, but to my understanding they’re still going by the 2019 tax returns for this second stimulus check. Does this mean I won’t get one? And if so, is there anything I can do or anyone I can contact to ensure I get one?

You are incorrect ... if you are NOT a dependent for the 2020 tax year then you can get the credit on the 2020 return ... Watch for this screen in the REVIEW tab ...

Thank you for your response! I apologize for asking but this is my first year filing taxes on my own so I’m new to this. Where can I find this screen?

It is in the interview flow ... when you get to the REVIEW tab at the end the question will be asked of everyone this year.

just to clarify:

@mellajohnson asked about the 2nd stimulus payment and @Critter-3 explained how to receive the 1st stimulus payment.....

BOTH stimulus payments are based on your 2020 income tax return. Nothing about 2018/2019 matters in the end.

TT is CURRENTLY programmed to compute the first stimulus payment and adjust the tax return if you are owed more.

we will all have to wait and see how the 2nd stimulus check is handled. The IRS will be using 2019 to send out the payments as an advance, just like they did last spring, but if you were not eligible based on 2019 data yet are eligible based on 2020 tax return, we will have to wait and see how that is handled.
