I used Turbox tax for Mac version. When filing taxes for 2019, my son's ITIN got expired. I filed my taxes without getting child tax credit. Then filed for ITIN renewal and got it renewed. Now i am trying to amend my return. But Turbotax is still saying that ITIN is expired. Any idea how to fix this.

You do not get the child tax credit for a child with an ITIN. You can only get the $500 credit for other dependents for your child unless the child is under the age of 17 and has a Social Security number.

Well you messed up ... you should have waited to file until the ITIN was renewed ...

The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes or PATH Act made several changes to the tax law ...

http://www.thetaxadviser.com/newsletters/2016/jan/congress-makes-changes-to-popular-tax-credits.html

Retroactive claims: One change the legislation makes is to prohibit retroactive claims of the child tax credit. It does this by preventing taxpayers from amending a return (or filing an original return) to claim the credit for any prior year in which the taxpayer or the qualifying child did not have an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN). This means that taxpayers cannot file returns claiming the credit using an ITIN issued after the year for which the credit is being claimed. The effective date of this provision allows taxpayers to file their 2015 returns without regard to this rule if the returns are timely filed (Section 205 of the Act).

I am not clear about your reply. I used to get child tax credit for my kids who are below 17. This year while filing taxes my kids ITIN got expired. So I filed with that status and did not get the credit(whatever the amount). Now I got it renewed and I would like to get the credit back.

Also when I tried to file amendment Turbotax still says ITIN is expired. This is not reflecting in Turbox tax

It was not valid ... it had expired. It is only valid now that it was renewed however it was invalid at the time of the filing.
