Hello,

Question I have:

I just received a letter from Kantar Finance Services LLC stating that:

"We received a CP2100A from the IRS stating that the Tax ID reported to us by you is wrong and according to the IRS and it must be corrected immediately,

On the back of this letter is a substitute W-9 form that must be completed and returned to us no later than November 1st or backup withholding will begin December 1 at a rate of 24%. Please use self addressed envelope.

Then they sent a IRS "B" notice page with additional information.

Your prompt attention to this notice is greatly appreciated."

Note: I did do some surveys and earned money through Kantar - but that's been more than a year ago. I tried calling the company as well as the person on the bottom of the letter, and no-one returns calls. Is this legit? Do I need to forward the W-9 located on the back of the letter? I don't ever plan on doing business with them again, but the CP2100A does say that the IRS can fine you. Any ideas or suggestions?

If you will not be doing business with Kantar any more, it doesn't matter whether they have a W-9 or not.
