A 2018 tax return cannot be e-filed using TurboTax, it can only be printed and mailed.

To complete and file a 2018 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2018 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

The IRS was not processing any paper tax return for several months due to the pandemic and limited staffing. They have only just recently started to process approximately 11 million paper returns in the order they were received.

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

It's too late to efile 2018 and prior. And the IRS says not to file or mail it again.

Sorry the IRS has limited staff due to Covid-19. They didn't start opening the mail until June that's been stacking up. Back in March the IRS closed their processing centers and stopped processing mailed tax returns. An IRS spokesperson recently said that they have about 11 million pieces of unopened mail. The IRS says....."We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it." So it may take longer if you mailed in June or later. So you have to keep waiting.

unfortunately, the IRS instructions may have totally screwed up your refund. they may now have the original + the copies you faxed and mailed. multiple copies can delay refunds 6 months or more. do not send in another copy. Have you tried to get a transcript of your return from the IRS website? do so, and then post back the results in this thread for further help. we don't need any personal info just whether a transcript is showing up and what the amount is showing for the overpayment and whether it's to be refunded
