Preparing my tax return using the Forms option with TurboTax has become an exercise in frustration. I am constantly prevented from using an Override to directly enter data on various Forms. The Override command is greyed out. This results in a total waste of my time. TurboTax needs to add back the the use of Overrides with a simple keystroke command, and not place all of these restrictions on using it. Otherwise, I need to find a good replacement for TurboTax next year.

TT gives an accuracy guarantee. overrides void that. Any other software that gave the same type of guarantee, would also likely say it's void if you use overrides.

If the number on the form comes from a worksheet, you have to edit the source worksheet, you can't directly edit the form, even with override. I don't expect that to change.

I'm not sure why you are using Turbotax if you want to enter everything manually, using override voids all theTurbotax guarantees. You can use IRS "Free fillable forms" to manually prepare a tax return and e-file it. I don't think Turbotax is designed with users like you in mind. (Just my opinion and observation over many years.)

If you simply want to fill in forms then get them from the IRS/state and mail in the returns.
When you used a DIY tax program they are all programed to use the interview based system and the FORMS mode should only be used on the rare occasion when TT support instructs you to do so.

https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/before-starting-free-file-fillable-forms

If you simply want to fill in forms then get them from the IRS/state and mail in the returns.

https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/before-starting-free-file-fillable-forms

The IRS and most states have online forms that you fill in the blanks and then e-file for free. There's no need to mail your returns. On the other hand, there's no need to use commercial software if the only function you need the software to perform is to check your math and then e-file.
