Paper Tax Returns

I paper filed my federal and state tax returns in June and received a refund from CA about a month ago. It has been more than three months and I am not even sure if IRS received my returns. I only have USPS certified mail tracking proof that the paper returns were delivered to IRS Fresno facility. Talking to IRS representatives can take up to 2 hours and they may not be able to give any information other than what one can retrieve on line. Does anyone know the status of paper filed returns in California.

Did you mail the fed & state returns separately to the correct addresses for each of them ?

Fed : https://www.irs.gov/filing/california-where-to-file-addresses-for-taxpayers-and-tax-professionals

CA : https://www.ftb.ca.gov/help/contact/mailing-addresses.html

If you did then all you can do is WAIT patiently for the IRS to catch up on the 11 million + envelopes that piled up during and after the covid shut down ... expect a mailed in return to take much much longer than the usual 6 weeks. Check the IRS site one a week until you see your return is in the system. https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Yes I did . In fact I got a refund from CA about a month ago and the Utah state tax was also processed. Just finished talking to an IRS representative. They also advice to just WAIT but do not resubmit the returns.
