There are 2 free versions. In the regular Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now. Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition?

OR There is also The Turbo Tax Free File program which is free for federal and state. And has more forms than the Federal Free Edition, like Schedules A, B, C , D, E, F, EIC, H, K-1, SE, etc.

To qualify for the Free File website you just need to meet one of these 3 things
AGI $36,000 or less
Active duty military with AGI of $69,000 or less
OR qualify for EIC (earned income credit.)

In order to use the Free File program, you have to start it at a special website. Try signing in at the top right

You might have selected to pay the fees from your federal refund. There is an extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge for that which you can avoid by paying with a credit card.

For the total to be $150, you must have $60 for Deluxe federal, $50 for state and an additional $40 to have your fees paid from your federal refund. If you have not paid or registered, you may be able to clear and start over in the Free Edition. However, it is only for very simple returns that can be prepared on just the form 1040 with no other schedules. If you need other schedules, there is another free product from the Free File Program than you might be eligible to use:
