topic 1099misc income on wrong line in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I received a 1099 misc that the income was listed in box 7 and was later advised that it was actually supposed to be in box 3. They are issuing another 1099 misc. I started an amended 1040; however, making the change made no difference in the income amount or the refund so is it necessary to file an amended return to change this, since it seems it make no difference either way?

The 1099 income was derived from strike relief and not employment. After working with the amended return a little further I realized it did in fact increase the refund amount.

No. If it doesn't change your refund or amount due, then you do not need to file an amended return. If the amount in Box 3 is considered self-employment, it will not change anything. However, if the amount in Box 3 is not from self-employment income, you would be due a refund of the self-employment taxes paid from reporting it in Box 7.
