THE PROBLEM :

1) The IRS Standard deduction chart for 1040SR 2019 / Married filing jointly --- clearly states $ 27000 deduction if BOTH or ONE of the spouses are 65 years or older on or before Jan1 2020.

2) Turbotax form has default value of $ 25,700 on line 9 , which cannot be corrected or changed when I clicked on Amend a filed return.

3) Please note that Amended returns have to be sent by MAIL, do not efile.

If you sent return by efile like I did then you just wasted $24.99 and would have to spend more to send by standard mail.

I see similar recurring problems from previous years . All suggestions appreciated Thank You

You misunderstood. You are mis-interpreting that chart. Look again--how many "boxes" are checked for you and your spouse being born before Jan 2, 1955? One box or two boxes? Or is one of you legally blind--if so, then two boxes would be checked. If ONE of those boxes is checked, your MFJ standard deduction is $25,700. Each spouse who was 65 or older before Jan.1. 2020 gets the extra $1300 standard deduction. if one of you was not 65 by the end of 2019, then the standard deduction you are seeing on line 9 is correct.

You do not need to amend for this. In fact, amending is not a way to make corrections to a return that has not yet been filed. Amending is a special process you only use for a return that has been fully processed with a mistake or missing information.

I clicked on “amend” by mistake

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2552802-how-do-i-cancel-or-undo-an-amended-return-in-turbotax-online

If you did, in fact, e-file already, leave it alone. You do not need to amend for the standard deduction.
