A tax return with no taxable income cannot be e-filed, it can only be printed and mailed.

If you are only reporting Social Security benefits on the tax return then there is no benefit or reason to file a tax return.

If you are reporting Foreign Earned income and excluding all income then you cannot e-file the return. It would have to be printed and mailed.

However, if you enter $1 of Interest Income, Form 1099-INT, then you can e-file. For the payers name on the 1099-INT enter anything. Enter $1 in box 1 of the 1099-INT.

I am having the above issue with my foreign earned income/exclusion values not carrying thru to form 1040. in the past the values carried through properly as positive and negative values and I was able to e-file. Why is it not carrying thru this year? If I use your above method of add $1 to 1099-INT form so that I can e-file will this be a red flag for the IRS or cause any issues in processing my return?
