If you live in SC, it is SC income regardless of where the employer is located. You would not need to file a VA return, only a resident SC return.

I live in SC and retired from job in VA . My old VA company pays my Life insurance policy and sends me a W2 for $2019. (no taxes taken out for federal or state) Turbo Tax allowed me to take an IRA for the same amount ($2019) and deduct from my income (pension), dividends, etc.. The question is: do I need to file with VA? Turbo Tax says I owe $31 but buy the time I pay Turbo Tax for the additional state and for the e-File charges, jeeze? Upside is I did save on taxes with the IRA deduction.
