I fild my taxes with y'all on 01/24/20 and they was accepted on 01/27/20 I need it canled do to I claimed my son [PII Removed] and he was with foster partens for nit going to school but now is homr but I didnt no if I could get in truble because the foster parents is saying they claimed him but i am the mother and thought I could claimed him please tell me what i. Need to do thanks [PII Removed].

You can not cancel your return once you have filed it. What will happen is that since your return was accepted with the IRS and you claimed your child,

the IRS will process your return and send you your refund, in the normal time.

If the foster parents try to Electronically file, their return will be rejected and they will have to file a paper return.

You will need to amend your 1040 but will not be able to amend your tax return until the IRS releases the 1040-X Amendment form for 2019. The IRS estimate for issuing the 1040X form is mid February.

Additionally, make sure that your 2019 return was accepted in TurboTax Online or paper-filed through the mail.

To prepare an amended return through TurboTax, follow these steps:

Sign in to TurboTax.
Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show), select 2019 and then Amend (change) return.
Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.
When finished, we'll give you instructions for printing and mailing your amended return as amendments can't be e-filed.

Three weeks after mailing your amended return, you can start tracking it at the IRS Where's My Amended Return? tracking tool. Please allow at least 16 weeks for the IRS to process your amended return.
