It has a bank account attached to it, hence the routing number and account number. It's also the reason you can have your paycheck Direct Deposited on to it. As long as the routing number and account number on your 1040 match the routing and account # on your turbo card, there should be no problem receiving the stimulus on the card. The Green Dot debit cards are set up to receive employer payroll direct deposit. There is an account attached to the card. Like you said, the automated deposit system the IRS is going to use only needs a VALID routing number and a VALID bank account attached to it in order for the money to be deposited. I am only speaking from my experience working in banking, but that is all I did-check the routing and account number on my 1040, it matched my turbo card, I'm all set.
Wed, 08 Apr 2020 21:35:49 GMT https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-turbo-card-and-coronavirus-stimulus/01/1427156#M518441 Jaragon 2020-04-08T21:35:49Z Re: Turbo Card and Coronavirus Stimulus https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-turbo-card-and-coronavirus-stimulus/01/1427185#M518446
I may be wrong here. But I assume our tax money doesn't go directly to the Turbo card from the IRS. It goes to a Turbo tax bank account where it is then distributed to our turbo cards. I assume this because we got the $2000 advance this year. That 2k(plus filing fee) was taken BEOFRE my taxes hit my turbo card. That leads me to beleive that the money goes somewhere else prior to hitting my card
Wed, 08 Apr 2020 21:39:06 GMT https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-turbo-card-and-coronavirus-stimulus/01/1427185#M518446 berger87 2020-04-08T21:39:06Z Re: Turbo Card and Coronavirus Stimulus https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-turbo-card-and-coronavirus-stimulus/01/1427203#M518450
I was just curious if it was going to revert to a paper check. The Tax Pros and individuals in finance and or employed with Green Dot / Turbo Tax simply do not know. The IRS would actually have a harder time not sending this money to your Routing and Account number supplied on your 1040 in the Direct Deposit box then they would otherwise. If that number in your 1040 can receive funds from your employer or anyone else who sends money to that Account and Routing number then you should most definitely believe that the IRS will see it as the same thing. It’s a Direct Deposit to a bank that is directly linked to the Turbo Visa card you received your taxes on. Make sure the card is still open and active and there should be no problem. This is especially important for those who did Taxes free of charge and had your refund sent to the card. Make sure your DD info on your 1040 matches your card DD info. You can see your 1040 on the Turbo Tax app if you downloaded and did them on there. You could also simply log into Turbo tax and look at your form that way
Thu, 09 Apr 2020 02:32:51 GMT https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-turbo-card-and-coronavirus-stimulus/01/1428542#M518800 immediatok 2020-04-09T02:32:51Z Re: Turbo Card and Coronavirus Stimulus https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-turbo-card-and-coronavirus-stimulus/01/1428606#M518812
Here’s some updated info. They state we will receive a paper check for anyone who used this service via their website April 8th. The tax "experts" have their automated message because they don't want people to stop using their third party services (which is always in fine print says green Dot bank, but they are a part of Santa Barbara Group). Your Green Dot Card Routing and Card account doesn't matter it states that it's "subject to change" since the backlash, but I garuntee we don't see paper checks until May for anyone who got a cash advance or had their filing fees taken out and I believe for anyone who used Turbo Card. I'm no going to speak on it anymore because these 'experts' will say anything to avoid the truth and an outrage from turbo tax customers because they can still make money off of people. It’s a Bank, there’s a Routing and Account number, it’s a FDIC member , IRS already DIRECT DEPOSITED money on there and money can STILL be direct deposited. The Santa Barbra stuff is not related and Green Dot bank goes by these names :GoBank, Green Dot Bank and Bonneville Bank. until Turbo Tax or Green Dot website gives alternative info then try to relax. I need the money just as bad as some others do and I think it’s clouding the common sense aspect here. If you were using any other bank with Direct Deposit you would not stress it. Government clearly stated that Direct deposit info given to them is what they will use and the only way you wouldn’t get your money is if Green Dot literally choses to reject it and thats not in there best interest nor would it make any sense whatsoever. Make sure your card is activated and if you really want to see if the Direct Deposit works just have your employer load a small amount on it. The issue is is that when you sign that agreement allowing them to take your fees from your refund you’re actually allowing it to be deposited there bank not your bank. Then they disburse the money . Not only that I I love their wording you are not required to sign us to take part in our tax reparation products. I didn’t even know I could file for free it should default to free if you meet the parameters . It doesn’t . And yes you do have to sign the agreement because they want their stank ass money right .
again I will say this one more time only because I know there's people out there like me that there are spaces are stuck in their phones trying to figure out answer well I have an answer I've been on the phone with TurboTax for the last two days and y have not been able to get an answerthey did not know if stimulus checks were or were not going to be able to be deposited on the card yet even though stimulus checks have start going out and I know that because five of my friends received theirs via chime. so just so happened the lady I spoke with last night just called me 30 minutes ago and I saw an 800 number and said well I'll just answer it and it was the lady the representative from TurboTax that assisted me last night that had told me that she knew they were not sure yet if payments were or were not going to be put on and she said she just got an update and when she got the update she thought of me and she thought it would be nice to give me a call and let me know that stimulus checks will be deposited on turbo cards I had my taxes done this year I did them on TurboTax and got a turbo card and opted to have the fee taken out of my refund so for people in this situation yes it is official they will be sending the stimulus payments to your card put your mind at ease I promise you I would never post this if it did not happen the lady just called me telling me they just found out.

Will we get the Coronavirus Stimulus direct deposited to our turbo cards? My tax return has the correct information for my turbo card (account and routing number) but the language from some articles states that “If you filed a return and got it on a financial instrument (like a prepaid card or tax advance loan), you'll receive a paper check.”

I’m asking Turbo Tax to verify this with the IRS to ensure we will get it. Can the Stimulus get posted to a prepaid card? Would the IRS be able to tell it is prepaid since it comes up as GreenDot Bank?

Other members with H&R Block Emerald Card and Jackson Hewitt Serve Card are also unsure.

If Turbo Tax could verify the Prepaid Turbo Card can receive the stimulus that would be great. If not when the IRS launches the web based portal to update direct deposit information I will have to update it to avoid getting a paper check.

Thank You!

<LI-USER uid="1876853"></LI-USER>, If you look at her profile, she is a TurboTax employee. I would trust that her information is correct. If you can't trust her then I'm not sure who you could. But here is what I know from research: The TurboCard is not a basic prepaid card. It has a bank account attached to it, hence the routing number and account number. It's also the reason you can have your paycheck Direct Deposited on to it. If the routing and account number match what is on your 1040, there is no reason the money would not go on there.

So as far as you guys are aware, if the IRS has the "checking" info from the turbo card, we should get the check stimulus there?

I have compared the direct deposit info on my tax form and my Turbo Tax debit card and they are the same. SO I am assuming they would be able to direct deposit our Stimulus checks to the Turbo card. Since the direct deposit info on my tax form matches that of the Turbo card. You can view your tax form on your Turbo online acct to compare direct deposit info to verify they are the same.

Print your return for this year and look up your listed account information. Whatever is there is what the IRS has. I compared it to my Turbo Debit Card and it was the same number. Therefore, my stimulus will be posted to my Turbo Debit account. Hope that helps.

Dear Turbotax, Please also find out what to do for those of us who have used and canceled our green dot turbo card this year, after spending the tax refund money last month. I spent the tax refund and then canceled the green dot service because I no longer needed it and now the irs might think that direct deposit info is still correct but it isn't. I hope the irs direct deposit portal will allow me to update my Direct Deposit back to my BofA account, so that I don't have to deal with green dot fees and limitations anymore. But if it has to go to green dot, to be faster, then they should proactive and turn my account back on with no fees, so I can access my stimulus fairly, or send us an email with guidance.

Turbotax and or green dot, should know witch customers we are and should email us a custom guidance when you find out. And you should anticipate this question but I don't see this particular scenario mentioned anyway yet. Thanks in advance, I patiently await your guidance on this when you find out. From you or that green dot bank you sold me. Thanks,

The truth is that nobody knows as of yet. When these kinds of packages arrive and are passed quickly, a lot of the fine details will have to be presented and worked out as they come. From a common sense standpoint, the IRS would have no problem sending you money through the same secure DD green dot/Turbo Card that they already sent you money to. It was fine then and will be fine now. They will simply see that they issued a tax refund to a specific DD account which is located on your tax form. They don’t care to see any additional info past that. I can’t be sure that things won’t change but as of now, no one has been updated on that specific issue

@Redhott66 Typically we would advise you to call the IRS if you don't receive your refund within 21 days of your return being accepted. However, the IRS is not currently taking phone calls. The stimulus payment is taking precedence, so once they figure out all of the details with that, they will resume normal operations. Rest assured though, if you are expecting a refund, it is coming. Also, you will still receive the stimulus payment even if your refund hasn't been sent out yet.

I found this info below via the link you provided. I assume Santa Barbara TPG is the one who issues our Turbo Tax Cards. Meaning that anyone who got a their taxes on the Turbo card will get paper checks. Is that accurate?

"An IRS-issued check will be mailed to taxpayers that received a check printed from their tax professional's office or a debit card issued through Santa Barbara TPG"

<LI-USER uid="744232"></LI-USER> @I do not believe you guys will be getting “guidance” about these accounts. The system will simply see the direct deposit number and the routing number on the 1040 form. The system won’t be able to tell the difference between a Wells Fargo direct deposit account and the green dot account (turbo Visa card). The money will just come that way. Unfortunately you guys can’t say that because you cannot give false information but that is what will most likely happen.

<LI-USER uid="1884960"></LI-USER>, You are absolutely correct!

<LI-USER uid="1768138"></LI-USER>, check the second page of your 1040. Look at the direct deposit information, there will be a routing number and account number. Compare it to your Turbo card routing and account number. This will tell you if a 3rd party financial institution came in to play. But, if it matches your Turbo Card account and routing, there is no reason I see that would make it so the funds don't go on the card. I AM NO EXPERT, this is just what I know and understand about banking from working in the field for 5 years.

When using the Turbo card for the refund it actually supplies a routing and checking account number to the IRS not a debit card number. So I would think it would be ok. Also my NYS refund was DD to my checking account so would the IRS have that info as well?

Everyone should quit stressing and the question has been answered many times here.

Here’s some updated info. Though it doesn’t directly cover Turbo Visa card it does clarify something’s related

Here's how it works:

If you filed a 2018 and/or 2019 return with the IRS, and at least one of those returns had a refund which was direct-deposited, the IRS will deposit your stimulus payment into that account (if it's closed, you'll get a check instead.)

If you filed a 2018 and/or 2019 return and neither one had a refund coming, the IRS will mail you a stimulus check. The same holds true if these returns had a refund which was sent as a check.

In other words, if you requested a direct-deposited refund on at least one return in the past two years – 2018 or 2019 – your stimulus will be direct-deposited into that account (assuming it's still valid), and if not, you'll get a check. This cannot be changed.

If you put your info in the Santa whatever bank it will pull up your refund if you got a cash advance or paid for your filing fee with them. Look they already screwed millions from charging for their "free" tax preparations and anyone who was supposed to get free filing can put in their info on the Santa Barbara page and see what they charged for Turbo Tax Services. SMH

Now that was updated April 8th, but last night I looked at the page and the now have **Anything is Subject to Change........ This money is detrimental to so many people and the difference between it being deposited or being mailed a check is months! I know that I personally will not make it through until May or June if I am not able to get this money. This is so absurd to me. On our tax forms, where DD information is provided, it has a checking account and routing number there and they match my turbo card account info. So what is the issue and why can’t it be directly deposited into that account?

Stop with the Expert Automated Messages and give us answers. Your telling me Turbo Tax can work so fast with IRS for those who didn't file returns, but takes weeks to get a straight forward answer on if Turbo Card Members or Turbo Card Members who took advances or paid filing fees will get the stimulus on a Green Dot BANK Card!!!! ( All because you needed to use this Santa Barbara Group as a third party, but says it's a member of Green Dot BANK. You Experts are just making it worse passing the buck to the IRS website. We are TURBO TAX CUSTOMERS so fight to get answers for YOUR CUSTOMERS not hide behind the IRS website with automated messages !!!

I Think the bigger question is why wouldn’t you get it on the card and who started the rumor that we wouldn’t? It will work and though I can’t stand this card either ,“at the moment” it will work for its intended purposes.

Well either way this goes I’m not using turbo tax again . The issue is is that when you sign that agreement allowing them to take your fees from your refund you’re actually allowing it to be deposited there bank not your bank. Then they disburse the money . I went through the contract did you know they supply your info to people who don’t even need it. -And it’s valid for a year from the date you sign it . Not only that I I love their wording you are not required to sign us to take part in our tax reparation products. I didn’t even know I could file for free it should default to free if you meet the parameters . It doesn’t . And yes you do have to sign the agreement because they want their stank ass money right . When in fact I qualified for free for the whole time I been filing with them and they never offered the option . I would read that agreement you signed throughly . I admit I should have before hand to . Can’t trust these companies anymore
