The facts:

My wife and I were married last October.

We bought our home last April, but it is only in her name.

She has not changed her last name yet.

We both work full time.

Based on this, what would be the best way to file? I think married filling jointly, but I am not sure. And would the turbo tax app be able to do this, or would we be best off to pay and have a professional handle this for us.

Thanks,

Married Filing Jointly is usually the best way to file your taxes. TT should have no problem handling your taxes.

It is almost always better to file jointly. There are some special circumstances where it is better to file separately.

Here is a great article explaining the advantages of filing jointly and the consequences of filing separately. It also gives you some instances when it might be better to file separately.

Filing Jointly vs Separately

I would suggest Married Filing Jointly. She will use her name as it appears on her Social Security Card if she hasn't changed it.
