My taxes have been done for about 8 weeks and I know there is a number to call at the IRS to find out

You can call the IRS tax refund hotline number at 1-800-829-4477 on Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 11:30 PM.

So you call this number then have to press what after? I have tried calling and I can not talk to a live person because no one is there

According to the IRS, the normal processing times for injured spouse claims are:

If you file Form 8379 with a joint return electronically, the time needed to process it is about 11 weeks.
If you file Form 8379 with a joint return on paper, the time needed is about 14 weeks.
If you file Form 8379 by itself after a joint return has already been processed, the time needed is about 8 weeks.

In these exceptional times, those timeframes most likely won’t apply.

Why is it when I call the irs to find the status of my tax there is a recorded message--Can not talk to a live person. Call back again at a later time.I have tried for 3 days at different hours.

When a check on line it says the say thing--no update and very frustrated with this.

Besides the 800 number when you get through what numbers do you press?

You can contact your local IRS office. See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment (although I doubt they are scheduling appointments now).
